Stayton Residence

Designed as a forever home, the Stayton Residence is a deeply personal renovation shaped by its wooded riverfront setting, the clients’ appreciation for craft, and a long-term vision for aging in place.

Planning restrictions required the project to retain enough of the original home to remain a renovation rather than a new build, creating an opportunity to carefully rework the house around the way the clients wanted to live. The resulting design strengthens the connection to the surrounding forest and river while creating a warm, highly functional home intended to serve them for decades—and to become the place their family and grandchildren return to over time.

Every part of the home was designed with daily use in mind. The kitchen incorporates ergonomic features tailored to the clients’ love of cooking and baking, while an outdoor cooking area extends that experience into the landscape. Throughout the house, details were fine-tuned to support real life, from integrated art display and carefully planned lighting to specialized storage and a dedicated dog-washing area.

The material palette balances warmth, durability, and craftsmanship, keeping the home refined without feeling precious. In collaboration with Kraft Custom Construction, the level of detail developed in the drawings carried through construction, resulting in a home where architecture, interiors, and craftsmanship work together seamlessly.

More than a remodel, the project is a thoughtful investment in how the clients want to live now and well into the future: beautiful, functional, connected to its setting, and designed to last.
